Death Knight tanking article

It is probably a while before I should be thinking about tanking stuff, but WoW Insider have a nice article about Death Knight tanking with some suggested builds.

Escape!

Pysan has escaped the DK starter area and is just taking a walk into Orgrimmar to have a chat with Thrall. The guards are reacting badly to his presence, and throwing rotten apples and doing some sort of silence so he can't ride his mighty steed.

After trying Magic Runes I can say it works much better with ArcHud2 than RuneWatch. I can arrange the vertical rune bar slightly to the left of ArcHud so I can watch both runes and debuffs on the target. ArcHud2 has now been updated to show Runic Power, so that's good, although showing runes would be awesome. For now I'll stick with Magic Runes.

Archud and Runewatch don't play nicely together

I'm having trouble with ArcHud2 and Runewatcher. They do work on the same WoW, unfortunately they both want to have the bottom area of the screen to display things. Which means I can either keep track of runes, or diseases on my target, and I want to do both!

I've grabbed Magic Runes and will give that a spin to see if I can arrange it better with ArcHud2. Hopefully ArcHud2 will get an update to show Runes and then I'll be happy.

It's on!

Pysan, level 55 Deathknight, was created on the Friday 14th November. Thus far we've done some of the starter zone quests, nicked a horse and that's pretty much it. Pysan is a Tauren, the mighty and very large race, mainly because I like Tauren.

The Deathknight class initially appears complex, keeping track of rune cooldowns is hard when they are under the character portrait and I use Archud so watch the middle of the screen. Luckily I found Runewatch which moves the runes to the middle of the screen, so hopefully that will be a lot more useful.

I read this DK FAQ which also has a link to the DPS rotation for each tree, although this is probably at level 80. I also then read Lichborne: Talents for catching up which has a nice description of what each talent tree is generally for, so helped me choose Unholy because apparently it is good for AOE.

Currently I intend on playing Pysan when my main, Kam, has no rested XP. I am however still interested in using Pysan as a tank, with the Shaman that would mean I would have classes capable of healing, tanking, melee and magic DPS.

My my WoW Insider are running so much Wrath content these days that I now call them Wrath Insider. But anyway, they have a neat page with up to date info about all things Wrath at their WoW Insider Wrath page.

Omg skeletal flying mount!

Oh wow just as I was deciding against playing a DK they had to go and add a Skeletal flying mount. This is frankly awesome, combined with the custom riding mount.

I'm really trying to avoid Wrath spoilers apart from all things DK, because I still need to decide if I'm going to roll one, and under which circumstances; alt or main or secretly-levelled alt ;)

Beta friend

Aha a friend who went to the WWI has got into the Wrath beta, so I am being bombarded by DK info from her as well as Wrathinsider. So far she is enjoying the DK but who knows what will happen once the novelty wears off.

New DK articles

Someone has been talking because suddenly we have not 1 but 2 Death Knight articles with lots of interesting info. GameSpy's article details stuff like they will start at lvl 55, get a free mount, have an aura much like paladins and build up "runic power" much like a warrior's rage through combat. The ability to raise a fallen ally or foe to control as your minion sure sounds cool.

They also get death coil but sadly "not the fear component" which is like the best part surely? Finally the article mentions they will specialise in tanking magic dealing bosses, which is neat.

Then we have World Of War's article lists some cool abilities the DK will have.

WoW Insider also have a neat article combining the above two.

This info is very exciting and although the levelling slog from 55 to 70, when the new stuff can be played, will be a pain, the Death Knight looks like it will have some cool and unique abilities.

Bornakk speaks on DK starting level

Aha seems the Death Knight may not have to grind their way through the Outlands after all. Bornakk spoke on the forums in this post that "we plan to have them start at a level lower than 70... we are aiming to make this Hero Class at a good level to learn abilities but also get to Northrend a little faster".

It would be awesome to be able to pick up the DK and get into the new Wrath content quickly. Thanks to WoW Insider.

DK info

Because I am quite interested in playing a Death Knight come Wrath of the Lich King, I've started this blog as a place to collect info, posting and interviews. When the expansion is released and I can get started on the DK I'll also post my impressions as well as further links as the theorycrafters get onto the class.
